Hy Vee Will Steal From You
I shop at Hy-Vee a lot because I burn a lot of gas and use the shopper gas points to lower my gasoline costs. But you have to watch them carefully because they will rip you off.
They were running a commercial locally in KC that said on a Monday after a Chiefs game, if you buy x amount of dollars that matches what the Chiefs scored or more, they'd give you gas points. Example: If the Chiefs score 24, you spend at least $24, you get $.24 a gallon off gas. Cool. So Monday after the Green Bay game, I go in, buy over $24 of stuff, cashier says, "Oh sorry, it's only if the Chiefs win." The ad doesn't say that, but I take his word.
I hear the ad again last week, they say nothing about "Chiefs must win." So anyway, today over lunch I ordered a burger and fries at Hy-Vee and went shopping while they made my food. Chiefs beat the Vikings yesterday 26-23. Gas points today: $.10 for every $10 in frozen food. I got over $30, so that $.30.
$.10 off cat food. $.20 for buying a $100 gift card. So that's $.60. And since the Chiefs won, Chiefs scored 26 points, I spent way more than $26, I should get $.26 additional gas points.
So they print out my receipt, the gas point aren't on it. "Where's my points?" I ask. "Oh, the register software needs to be updated, it'll show up on your phone app." So I wait around a few minutes, after about five minutes, my phone app shows $.59 cents! That's a $.26 a gallon rip off!
If I buy 18 gallons of gas (fill my tank) that's over $5 dollars. I fill up about four times a month, so if they screw me every time for a that's $20 per month. Or, $240 a year! Not only that, but then you have the hassle of fighting with customer service to get what you legitimately paid for, and receive just a sheepish "sorry bout that" by the guy behind the counter.
*** me off, man. I also told the guy about getting ripped off for $.24 last week. "How bout putting that on my card ? I still have my receipt." "Sorry, that was last week's game.
Can't do anything about it this week, sir" So I'm telling you, watch Hy-Vee like a hawk. I'm sure they rip off their customers for hundreds of thousands of dollars a year with "sorry bout that."
